Somali Community in Malaysia Hosts Leadership Program

On 30 August 2025, the Somali Community in Malaysia (SOSOMCMY), in partnership with Britannia Language Centre, successfully hosted an educational program titled “Leadership Skills: Concepts and Practices” in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The event was part of an ongoing series of community-focused initiatives aimed at empowering and uplifting the Somali diaspora through knowledge and skills development.

The program focused on leadership concepts and the role of effective leadership in community service. It featured insightful and thought-provoking presentations from two distinguished scholars. Associate Professor Dr. Abdullahi Ali Mohamad delivered a presentation on Leadership Skills and Their Application in the Somali Context, highlighting practical leadership approaches relevant to Somali communities. Meanwhile, Professor Dr. Abdurezak Abdullahi Hashi provided an enlightening introduction to leadership from the perspective of Islamic thought, emphasizing values-based leadership and ethical responsibility.

The event attracted a strong turnout of youth and community members from across Malaysia. Participants actively engaged in discussions, shared experiences, and gained fresh perspectives on leadership, personal development, and community engagement. The interactive nature of the program fostered meaningful dialogue and encouraged participants to reflect on their own leadership potential.

The program was officially concluded by Mr. Moktar Mohamed Ali, Chairman of the Somali Community in Malaysia. In his closing remarks, he expressed heartfelt appreciation to the guest speakers and all attendees for their valuable contributions. He also reaffirmed SOSOMCMY’s commitment to organizing similar educational and capacity-building programs in the near future, aimed at strengthening the Somali community in Malaysia.

This successful event marked another important step in promoting knowledge, leadership, and unity within the Somali diaspora.
